Buena Vista and La Ribera are two pleasant communities,
both of which are located halfway between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez,
in the rapidly expanding East Cape area just 40 minutes north of the Los Cabos Airport.
There is a wide range of recreational opportunities including fishing, diving, snorkeling,
wind surfing, kite sailing, mountain biking, kayaking. One can explore the beauty of the
Sierra Laguna mountains rising 7000 feet above sea level, opening grand vistas of the
Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, and enjoy the beauty of a wide variety of trees and
vegetation and the opportunity of viewing deer and exotic rare birds.
La Ribera
The town of La Ribera has a population of 1200.
Approximately 100 US and Canadian citizens reside there permanently and an average of
another 50 persons during the winter season. Agriculture, commercial fishing, tourism and
construction mainly support the local economy. There is a fair sized labor pool and the
town has several modern, attractive, homes of good quality. Two restaurants serve fresh
seafood and Mexican dishes. The Palomar Restaurant in nearby Santigo has been in
operation for several decades and is very popular with both tourists and the locals.
La Ventana Bay
This beautiful rapidly growing community is a Tourist
Destination popular among sail boarding, and kites skiing enthusiast, divers and sport
fishermen, located 25 miles south of La Paz on the Sea of Cortez. There are two towns on
the shoreline; La Ventana and El Sargento. Within the past five years, there has been
phenomenal growth in residential building, particularly to the north of El Sargento.
Property values have appreciated at an annual rate
exceeding 25% during the past six years. The prospect for increases in property values is
promising. Dining out and social gatherings are welcomed at resort hotels and restaurants
that have opened in the past three years to meet the needs of the growing demand for
tourist accommodations. Dinner reservations are usually required.
Electricity - is now available in the area and the Water
Commission has just finished work on a new pipeline from Los Planes where there is an
abundance of water, to El Sargento. The landowners in the area have requested that the
water line be extended to include this newly developed area. The property owners that are
currently building and living in there receive water from a local delivery service. The
trucks come out and fill the owners storage pilas as needed. A three thousand-gallon
load of water delivered costs about $45.
Telephones Telmex plans to install telephone service
within the next few months. Cellular telephones will work with an antenna and provide
access to the Internet.
